Professor and Chief
Sandra Shotwell is a Professor in the University of Utah Department of Theatre. She teaches primarily in the pre-professional Actor Training Program - voice, speech, and acting. She has an MFA in Acting from The American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, where she was a journeyman with the company and taught acting in the conservatory. Her voice and speech training includes extensive study of the work of Kristin Linklater and Arthur Lessac. She has studied the work of Roy Hart, and also attended workshops with Cicely Berry, Andrew Wade, and Patsy Rodenberg. She received an Advanced Diploma in Voice and Speech (ADVS), with Distinction, from the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, under the leadership of David Carey, and is a Certified Laban-Bartenieff Movement Analyst (CLMA). She is a member of The Voice and Speech Trainers Association (VASTA), and has served as a member of the Board of Directors and as an Editor of the Newsletter. She has dialect coached with Pioneer Theatre Company, the University of Utah's resident theatre company, most recently for productions of Black Comedy, Twelve Angry Men, The Vertical Hour, and Humble Boy. Sandra is the recipient of the University of Utah's Distinguished Teaching Award, the highest honor in teaching. She is member of Actors' Equity and Screen Actors Guild.
