NCVS: Giving Voice to America

Jennifer Spielman, Speech Pathologist /Research Associate

Jennifer Spielman holds master's degrees in both music (New England Conservatory of Music, 1989) and speech, language and hearing sciences (University of Colorado at Boulder, 2000). Jennifer has been with the National Center for Voice and Speech since 1997, when she joined the staff as a part-time research assistant for Dr. Lorraine Ramig. Since then, she has become a full-time research clinician, contributing to a variety of articles, presentations and posters addressing the effects of intensive voice therapy (LSVT®) on Parkinson's disease (PD) and other neurological disorders. In 2000 Jennifer also became the center's first clinical fellow in speech-language pathology, focusing on clients with neurologically based voice disorders as well as those related to professional voice use. She is a certified LSVT® clinician.

Following a six-year period of studying, teaching and singing in Europe, Jennifer continues to be active as a vocalist, performing with small ensembles focusing on early repertoire. Her music education includes three years at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland, a branch of the Basel Conservatory specializing in medieval, Renaissance and baroque music.
